Hailing from Joplin, Missouri, the four-piece rock and roll band Blister Soul was officially formed in the summer of 2017. However, their roots in the local music scene run much deeper, as some of the members had been playing together in different bands since the late 1990s. The lineup consists of longtime friends: Greg Ballew on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Jason Otero on backup vocals and lead guitar, Bryan Bridgford on bass, and Tony Otero on drums. Their collective musical experience and shared history became the foundation for a new, purposeful project with a distinct voice, dedicated to creating original songs that resonate with both personal and societal themes.
The band draws on a wide array of influences to forge their unique rock sound, including iconic artists like The Drive-By Truckers, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and Starflyer 59. Notably, their very name is a nod to the Vigilantes of Love, specifically their 1995 album Blister Soul. This blend of influences is evident in their songwriting, which combines classic rock and blues sensibilities with a more modern, alt-country edge. The result is a sound that feels both familiar and fresh, allowing them to explore complex and socially conscious lyrical themes through a dynamic and accessible musical framework.
